Step 6: Reflection - Castles (Collins Type 1) 👤 (10 XP)
On Schoology, answer the following questions in a well-written, 5-sentence paragraph: If you had the opportunity to travel back in time, would you want to spend a week visiting a medieval castle? Why or why not? Would there be any conditions that you would want to set first? Post your response and reply to at least two other posts.
Step 7: Castle (Wales - 1280's) 👤 or 👥 (20 XP)
Castle is a movie based on a book by writer/illustrator David Macaulay. It combines nonfiction information with elements of historical fiction, including fictional characters who closely echo historical characters. It tells the story of an English lord who builds a castle at the direction of King Edward in order to try and help subdue the Welsh people who the English were attempting to conquer.
Watch the video. (Before you begin, be aware that it is a full length documentary with very little edited out so it will take longer than other EduCanon videos lessons). As you watch, consider what kind of defensive features were part of castles. Also consider what daily life was like for the people living in that era.
Did anything in this video change your understanding of life in the Middle Ages? When you have finished watching, answer this question in your packet with a well-written (type 1) 5-sentence paragraph.

Step 8: Defensive Structures 👤 or 👥 - (1 or 2 products) (15 XP)
Imagine you are an architect designing a protective house. What elements would you include? Your home can either be modern or medieval. In the space provided on your packet, draw a picture with labels showing how you would create a house designed to be not only a home but also a defensive weapon.
Step 9: Good Masters; Sweet Ladies 👤 or 👥 - (2 products) (45 XP)
You will find the PDF for this step on Schoology in the Historical Fiction Quest folder. Read the appropriate sections in order to complete the chart on your Explore Packet.
Step 10: Synthesis - Read-Aloud 👤 or 👥 - (2 products - different ideas) (25 XP)
Create an iMovie read-aloud of one of the characters from the book above. Find four to six images that match your character's story, and import them into your iMovie. (A brainstorming sheet has been attached to your packet). Then record your voice reading the passage. You and a partner may wish to take turns using your iPads so you can see the text while you record your iMovie, or you might choose to use a computer to see the text.
